Parotoids are a short species made up of dry skinned toad like people. Their skin is covered in wart-like protrusions that hold a milky substance that is toxic to touch or ingest. Parotoids are extremely muscular for their size and they use this extra strength to hand build large compounds out of rock, mud, and straw. Parotoids are territorial and live in large groups inside the aforementioned compounds where they fight tirelessly to expand.
They are hardy people and can survive many extreme weather events. Known to burrow during droughts they can remain sleeping without food or water for months. Parotoids can miraculously survive extreme cold by slowing their internal process down to a point of near death, where their body will avoid any real damage from the cold.
Poison Skin
When touched or grappled by an enemy, Parotoids can secrete a poisonous milky substance. The enemy must make a Save vs Poison, or take 1d4 damage on its next turn. If still being touched or grappled on its next turn, this happens again.
Muscle Tongue
Parotoids strong tongues give them a +2 towards grapple checks.
Infravision
Parotoid have infravision to 90’ (see Dark-
ness, p220).
Detect secret doors
Bullywugs have keen eyes that allow them, when actively searching, to detect hidden and secret doors with a 2-in-6 chance (see Dungeon Adventuring, p222).
Defrost
If a Parotoid were to reach 0 HP from cold damage, they do not die. Instead, they are frozen and enter a hibernation-like state, and can later be thawed out in a warm environment. The thawing process takes them 1d6+1 days to awaken.
