Pelicari are a species of lanky, long-beaked humanoids with webbed feet and large wings growing from their backs. Their thick, pale skin is lined with fine, waterproof feathers, and their long, flexible beaks house a stretchy throat pouch capable of holding a surprising amount of water and other items.
They are often found along coastlines, riverbanks, and swamps, where they dive for fish and trawl for lost trinkets. Pelicari are known for their easygoing, opportunistic nature.
The Pelicari make excellent scouts, thieves, and lightly armored fighters, using their flight and unusual storage abilities to their advantage. However, their odd mannerisms and tendency to swallow strange objects can make them as much a liability as an asset in an adventuring party!
Gliding Flight
Pelicari have large wings, allowing them to fly at half their walking speed. However, they must have at least a 10’ running start to take off and cannot hover or carry heavy loads while flying.
Mouth Pouch
The Pelicari’s beak includes a flexible pouch that can hold up to 3 gallons of liquid or a similar volume of small objects. They can release this stored liquid in a forceful spray, dousing a target within 10’ (useful for extinguishing fires or soaking foes).
Gullet Storage
A Pelicari can swallow an object up to 2 feet long whole, safely storing it in their gullet. Retrieving the item requires a full round action, though a swallowed weapon or similar object can be regurgitated as a surprise attack (requiring a successful attack roll).
Aquatic Adaptation
Pelicari are adept swimmers, moving at full speed in water and holding their breath for up to 5 minutes. They suffer no penalties for fighting underwater when using piercing or natural weapons.
Keen Sight
With sharp eyes evolved for spotting fish beneath the waves, Pelicari have a 2-in-6 chance to detect hidden or secret doors when actively searching.
Waddle-Walk
Due to their webbed feet and slightly awkward gait, Pelicari suffer a –1 penalty to reaction rolls when attempting to move stealthily unless they are in water or on soft, marshy ground.
